Watkinsville Police: Man Charged After Shooting Neighbor's Cat

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville Police Department.

A 50-year-old Watkinsville man was recently charged with cruelty to animals after shooting a neighbor's cat, a violation of the City's Animal Control Ordinance.

According to Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon, the Christian Lane resident shot the cat in the subdivision with a .22 rifle on Friday, March 23. The cat had to be euthanized as a result of its injuries, he explained.

The man told police he shot at the animal because he mistook the pet for a stray cat that had been causing problems with other pets in the area, O'Dillon stated in a news release.
