Watkinsville Police Blotter: Officers Spend All Day Searching For Missing Teen Who Was Later Located

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending Jan 1.

• On Dec. 16 around at 6:15 p.m., police observed a person driving who they knew did not have a valid driver's license. Police stopped the 1999 Mercury Marquis just off Experiment Station Road and charged a Cedar Drive resident with driving on a suspended license. The car was impounded. 

• Police spent all day Wednesday, Dec. 28, searching for a missing 15-year-old North Main Street girl. She and her mother had a heated argument causing the girl to flee her residence Tuesday night. On Wednesday evening the girl was located at a Hillcrest Drive address. The girl was turned over to a different family member until Juvenile Court and the Oconee County Department Of Family And Children Services can reach a decision on placement.

• At 6 p.m. Wednesday, a Harden Hill Road resident reported that his 2006 Dodge Ram had been stolen from his driveway while he was at work. Further investigation revealed that the truck had been legally repossessed.

• Also on Wednesday evening police and medical units responded to Experiment Station Road at the Watkinsville Post Office after three vehicles were involved in a wreck. A 2004 Chevrolet Express van had stopped in a line of traffic due to another vehicle attempting to make a left turn. A 1996 Geo Tracker stopped behind the Chevrolet van. A 2007 Chrysler 300 skidded into the back of the Geo forcing it into the back of the van. The drivers of the Geo and the Chrysler both suffered minor injuries. All three vehicles suffered heavy damage. A 16-year-old Oconee County driver was at fault in the accident.

• On New Year's Eve, a resident in the one hundred block of VFW Drive reported that someone had stolen a flat screen TV valued at $240 from a bedroom. There was no sign of forced entry. The investigation is in progress.

• A New Year's Day traffic stop resulted in charges filed against a Gwinnett County man. At 7:30 a.m. police observed a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am traveling at a high rate of speed on Greensboro Highway. Police stopped driver of the car. A 22-year-old Lilburn man was charged with speeding, open container of alcohol and DUI. After failing sobriety testing, the man was booked and later released after posting bond.

Police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between Monday, Dec. 26 and Sunday, Jan 1.
