Watkinsville Police Blotter: Multiple Traffic Accidents

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville police department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending Nov. 6.

  • Around 7:30 a.m. on Oct 31, a 1994 Toyota Camry struck the back of a 2003 Toyota Highlander on Barnett Shoals Road at Main Street. The 52-year-old driver of the Highlander was slightly injured. An 18-year-old woman was cited with following too closely.
  • Motorists telephoned police Halloween night around 10 p.m. concerning a erratic driver entering Watkinsville on Whitehall Road. Police located and stopped the 1981 Ford Courier pick up. Travis Gerald Maddox, 20, of Malcom Bridge Road, was arrested and charged with DUI.
  • At 5 p.m. on Nov. 2, a 2004 Dodge Dakota skidded into the back of a 2003 Honda Accord on Whitehall Road at Calls Creek Drive. Traffic was disrupted but neither driver was injured.
  • Thursday at 10:16 a.m. a 1999 GMC 2500 work truck was stopped at the stop sign on McRee Street at South Main Street when the driver decided to back-up. The truck backed into the front of the 1996 Honda Accord which was behind it. No one was injured. A Florida man was cited with improper backing.
  • At 4:46 p.m. Nov. 3, the driver of a 1997 BMW attempted to cross Whitehall Road on First Street but pulled into the path of a eastbound 2011 Honda CRZ. The impact knocked the BMW into a stopped 1996 Toyota Corolla and then the BMW hit a 2008 Volvo V-50. All of the vehicles suffered considerable damage and the driver of the CRZ was slightly injured. Whitehall Road was closed for a short while. A 20-year-old Athens woman was charged with failure to yield to the right of way.
  • Friday at 6:39 a.m. a 2007 Honda Fit was traveling into Watkinsville on Whitehall Road when a large deer ran into the path of the car near Third Street. The car was damaged but no one was injured.
  • Friday at 9 a.m. a 2011 Honda Odyssey was attempting to cross Whitehall Road but pulled into the path of a eastbound 2008 Mazda 6. This was the same type accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon at First Street. This time, no one was injured. A 69-year-old Bishop man was charged with failure to yield to the right of way.
  • A Cedar Drive resident reported at mid-day Friday that someone had damaged her 2001 Honda Accord while it was parked in her driveway. Someone had dented and scratched the car.

Police responded to a total of 33 calls within city limits between Monday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 6.
