Watkinsville PD Crime Report

Police say they arrested a Lagrange man on battery charges, investigated a minor traffic accident, and arrested a local man during a traffic stop.

In his weekly press release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending Feb. 6.

  • On Jan. 31, officers arrested a Lagrange man in connection with a May 13 incident in which two women were assaulted at Luxury Inn on 173 S Main Street,  O'Dillon said.  Tony Wayne Jones, 46, had been in the Troup County Jail on unrelated charges, he said, and the Troup County Sheriff's Office notified Watkinsville PD when Jones was released.  Jones was booked at Oconee County Jail on two counts of battery, O'Dillon said.
  • On the afternoon of Feb. 2, officers responded to a two-car accident at Barnett Shoals Road at South Third Street, O'Dillon said.  Neither driver was injured, but one was cited for following too closely, he said.
  • On Feb. 5,  a traffic stop resulted in an Oconee man being charged with speeding on New High Shoals Road and driving on a suspended license, O'Dillon said.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between Monday, Jan. 31 and Sunday, Feb. 6, O'Dillon said.
