Officers investigated a traffic accident and arrested one individual for public drunkenness in an unrelated incident.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending March 20.

  • On March 14 at 1:25 a.m., officers responded to Highway 15 near Jerry Smith Drive where the driver of an SUV struck a large deer.Β  There was some damage to the vehicle, but no injuries, O'Dillon said.
  • Police investigated a traffic accident without injuries on March 18 shortly after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and School Street, O'Dillon reported. Officers said traffic congestion was a factor in the accident.
  • After receiving several complaints of disorderly, intoxicated person on South Main Street about 3:30 p.m. on March 19, police made one arrest.Β  Louis Walter Beavers, 53, of Highway 441 South was arrested and charged with public drunkenness, O'Dillon said.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 28 calls within city limits between Monday, March 14Β  and Sunday, March 20, O'Dillon said.
