Watkinsville PD Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville police department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending Sept. 25.

Sept. 20

Arrest: Officers stopped the driver of a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier after observing her driving on the yellow center line and crossing off the edge of Highway 15. Lynette Beverly Tuttle, 23, of Athens, was charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane.

Traffic Accident: A 2010 Chrysler 300 was bumped from behind by a 2004 Honda Civic on VFW Drive at Experiment Station Road around 4:30 p.m. Only minor damage was reported and neither driver was injured.

Traffic Accident with Minor Injury: During a rain shower just before 6 a.m.,  a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage was struck in the side by a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado on Main Street at Whitehall Road. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and one person suffered minor injuries. One of the drivers, and 18-year-old, was cited for running a red light.

Fight and Arrest: Witnesses driving by Main Street in downtown just before 9 a.m. told police they saw a man in a physical altercation with a woman.  According to witnesses, the man forced the woman into a truck and drove away.  The truck was pulled over by police and Charles Eugene McDougald, 44, of Saxon Road, was charged with battery.  The woman was not seriously injured.

Sept. 23

Traffic Accident: No one was injured when a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder was bumped from behind by a 2009 Toyota Corolla on VFW Drive at Experiment Station Road around 5 p.m.

SUV Narrowly Misses Child in Road: Officers and medical units responded to Stone Shoals Lane where a 5-year-old had nearly been struck by a vehicle after he chased a ball into the street. The driver of the SUV spotted the child and was able to stop.  The boy fell an injured his ankle and suffered from "road rash," but was not seriously injured. No charges were filed against the driver of the SUV.

Animal Control Assist: Officers responded to a Colham Ferry Road address where residents reported a skunk that had been acting strange had bitten the family dog.  According to the , the skunk was put down at the scene but the body will not be tested for rabies because the dog's owner chose to surrender the dog to the shelter since it was not up to date on its rabies shot and quarentine can be a costly option, an Animal Control officer explained. The adoption coordinator will observe the dog and determine if it can be placed for adoption, the Animal Control officer said.

Sept. 25

Traffic Accident with Injuries: Traffic was slowed for a short time around 5:30 p.m. on Whitehall Road near Second Street after a 1998 Ford Contour was struck from behind by a 1999 Toyota 4-Runner. Two people were transported to St. Mary's Hospital.  A 19-year-old was cited with following too closely.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 33 calls within city limits between Monday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 25.
