Officers arrested a man for leaving the scene of an accident with an injury.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending April 24.

  • On April 22, officers stopped a driver who was traveling the wrong way on a one-way section of Jackson Street.   Martin Pena Hernandez, 52, of Norwood Circle in Athens was charged with driving the wrong way on a one-way street and no driver's license, O'Dillon said.
  • Police investigated a traffic accident on Experiment Station Road at Water Street around 9:30 a.m. on April 23.  By the time officers arrived, one of the drivers had left the scene, according to reports. A witness gave police a description of the driver, vehicle and tag number, O'Dillon said. Landon Timothy Riddle, 19, of High Shoals Road was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a traffic accident and following too closely, O'Dillon said.  One person was injured as a result of the accident, he added.
  • Shortly before 11 p.m. on April 23, officers witnessed a driver cross over the double yellow line on Whitehall Road, almost striking an on-coming car, O'Dillon said.  Emma Chantill Kitchens, 35, of Crawford was arrested and charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane, O'Dillon said.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 33 calls within city limits between Monday, April 18 and Sunday, April 24, O'Dillon said.
