Wandering Toddler Was Found Safe in Nearby Field

Dozens of volunteers with Oconee County Fire and Rescue teamed up with sheriff's deputies to locate the missing girl Monday night.

A 2-year-old girl who wandered away from her family's Oconee County home wearing only a diaper Monday night was found safe about an hour and a half later in a nearby field.

Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office said 35 volunteers with Oconee County Fire and Rescue combed the area of the 4800 block of Monroe Highway where the girl had been last seen around 9:30 p.m.

A missing child alert went out at 10:25 p.m. and just before 11 p.m., Bennett Guthrie and Zach McCoy of the OCFR found the girl safe.
