Victims of Fatal Crash on Hale Road Identified

The Georgia State Patrol says a man from Athens and another from Madison died in Monday evening's accident in Oconee County.

The Georgia State Patrol has identified the two victims killed in a single-car accident on Hale Road Monday as John David Edwards, 36, of Athens, and Stephen Dave Marlow, 23, of Madison.

According to GSP spokesman Gordy Wright, Edwards was driving a 1969 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling west of Colham Ferry on Hale Road around 9 p.m. when the truck crossed the center line, left the roadway and struck a road sign.Β  The truck continued off of the roadway and struck several trees with its front and left side, he said. Neither man was restrained by a seat belt, he said. An official with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office said they were the only two occupants of the truck.

Messages offering prayers and condolences to the victims' families have been pouring in on the Sheriff's Office Facebook Page.
