Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies find marijuana and methamphetamine, plus stolen property, on Lane Creek Road.

A Lane Creek Road resident was arrested on drug charges Wednesday after deputies found marijuana and methamphetamine during a traffic stop, the said in a release on its Facebook page.

Elmer Lamar “Mark” Bailey, 51, was stopped for speeding on Cole Springs Road, and the drugs were found after he consented to a search, the release says. Bailey was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

That evening, deputies searched Bailey's home in the 2000 block of Lane Creek Road under a search warrant, discovering marijuana and methamphetamine. A trailer reported stolen out of Jackson County was in the yard and was recovered, along with other suspected stolen property, the release says. 
 
While deputies searched the home, two other people arrived. According to the release, Larry Thomas Coker Jr., 25, of Malcom Bridge Road was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Oconee County for a probation violation, and Michelle Jeannette Blackwell, 38, of Whitehall Road in Athens,  was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of a schedule III narcotic (Hydrocodone).
