Tractor-Trailer and Car Collide in Front of North Oconee High School
Two students were injured in the accident on GA Highway 53 Thursday morning, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.
First responders rushed to the scene of a two-vehicle accident on GA Highway 53 around 8 a.m. Thursday in front of North Oconee High School.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, a Nissan Altima traveling east on GA Highway 53 failed to yield as it made a left turn in front of a westbound tractor-trailer.
The 17-year-old driver from Bogart was trying to turn into a parking lot of the school at the time, a spokesman for the GSP told Patch in an email. He and a 15-year-old passenger were both transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. Oconee County Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton confirmed both are students at NOHS.
According to the Athens Banner-Herald, one of the students was treated and released and the other was still being treated as of early afternoon Thursday.
The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old Vidalia man, was uninjured.
The driver of the Altima is charged with failure to yield while turning left, the GSP spokesman said.
