Knife Found in Student's Backpack at Oconee County High School

The 15 year old reportedly told a school official that he'd brought it to school by accident.

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies on Aug. 15 were called to Oconee County High School where an administrator told them he'd found a student in possession of a knife.

According to an incident report, an assistant principal told deputies he'd received information that the 15 year old was selling drugs, so he searched the student and found a folding knife with about a 3.5 inch blade inside of a backpack.

The student reportedly told the administrator and the deputies that he'd forgotten the knife was in the bag and that he'd brought it to school by accident.

Deputies called the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice and were instructed to take the teen to the Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville.

The policy on weapons set by the Oconee County Board of Education states, "a student shall not possess, use, handle, or transmit any object that reasonably can be considered a weapon."
