Two days have passed since a child's prosthetic leg was found by a jogger along a Watkinsville road, and so far police haven't heard from anyone looking to claim it.
“We haven’t gotten any response yet," Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said Wednesday.
O'Dillon speculated about how the prosthetic leg wound up on the side on Barnett Shoals Road near the Stone Shoals subdivision.
"A child could have tossed it out of a car window. A parent stopped tending to the needs of the child could have left it on the top of the car, there’s no telling," he said. "Maybe the child has actually outgrown it is not needing it on a daily basis, but we want to get it to the right people regardless."
He told 11 Alive News: "Speculation runs wild that somebody found it in a stolen vehicle and decided to throw it away to get rid of the evidence."
O'Dillon said he doesn't think prosthesis had been on the side of the road long because it was in plain sight and it was dry despite recent rain showers.
There are no markings and no serial number on the prosthesis, which is painted black with images of planets.
Anyone with information is asked to call 706-769-7891.
"I'm really hoping the media coverage will point someone in the right direction," he said.
