Sheriff's Office Works Around the Clock on Murder Investigation

Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office says every deputy became an investigator once the body of Misty Myrick was found.

Less than four days transpired between the murder of Misty Myrick and the arrest of accused killer Talmadge Edward "Bud" Powell, and during that time, deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff's Office have worked tirelessly to solve the crime.

According to Chief Deputy Lee Weems, all deputies on staff became investigators and pitched in with little sleep to work on the case.

Weems posted this message on the Sheriff's Office Facebook Page:

On behalf of Sheriff Berry and myself, please allow me to express pride in the members of the OCSO who worked so hard on this case. The teamwork and 'get it done' attitude displayed this week has been outstanding.

We would like to thank all of those people who cooperated and provided information in this case.

Weems noted during a news conference Saturday that though an arrest has been made, the investigation continues.
