Reward Offered For Information on Road Sign Vandalism

Information leading to an arrest in any case in which a road sign on an Oconee County roadway is stolen or vandalized is worth $500.

The in cooperation with the county government, is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest in any case in which a road sign on an Oconee County roadway is stolen or vandalized, Sheriff Scott Berry announced Friday afternoon.

Overnight last Sunday to Monday, and reattached to the post, according to an incident report. The Road Department was dispatched to fix the signs, a job that took about two hours, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.

County Roads Superintendent Michael Weathers told the newspaper the vandalism created a serious road hazard.

"We take this matter very seriously due to the potential devastating consequences such actions might cause," a Nixle message from the Sheriff's Office stated.
