Reported Burglary on Wellington Court Monday Night 'All Clear'

Deputies believe it may have been a case of loitering or prowling instead.

An incident originally thought to be a burglary in progress at a 1000- block residence on Wellington Court Monday night was actually a case of an ex-boyfriend and his friend checking up on an ex-girlfriend, authorities report.

According to Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, a neighbor reported having seen two men outside of a window, alerted authorities and chased them.Β  But when deputies arrived at the scene around 10:15 p.m., a woman who was visiting a resident of the home said she believes one of the men was an ex-boyfriend and the other was his friend, and that the two were checking up on her and not trying to break into the residence, he said.

The men had left the scene in the vehicle they came in, Weems said, and deputies will attempt to contact and question them.
