Race Car Driver John Wes Townley Charged with DUI in Oconee

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office arrested Townley on Feb 7 after reportedly having crashed his vehicle.

Race car driver John Wes Townley, 22, was arrested in Oconee County in the early morning hours of Feb. 7. 

The Sheriff's Office reports Townley knocked on the door of a home in the Mallard Lakes subdivision about 4:30 a.m. and the resident notified authorities.

"After questioning him and conducting a further investigation, Mr. Townley was arrested for D.U.I. and failure to maintain lane in connection to [a] vehicle crash nearby," according to a statement from the Sheriff's Office.  "The case is still pending,  and no additional charges are expected to be filed."

A spokesman for RAB Racing, Townley's team, told SceneDaily.com Townley has been suspended.

The website reports Townley was cited for underage possession of alcohol in 2010 during a race weekend in Las Vegas.
