Oconee Sheriff's Office Reports Fatal Accident on Hale Road

An alert about the single-car accident was sent shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday.

Update: 11 p.m. Chief Deputy Lee Weems confirmed two people were killed and that they were the only occupants of the vehicle.

The following message was sent around 10:30 p.m.:

We have identified those involved in fatal crash on Hale Road and have notified members of their immediate families. We will not be releasing the names of those involved tonight to give the families time to make further notifications. Please respect their privacy.

First responders in Oconee County were at the scene of a single-car accident with fatalities on Monday night.

The wreck occurred near the 1100 block of Hale Road, according to a Nixle alert sent by the Sheriff's Office at 9:20 p.m.Β  The message stated it appeared the vehicle involved wasn't from Oconee.

As of 10 p.m., authorities said they were still working to identify the victims and would notify the families as soon as possible.

No other details were immediately available.
