Oconee County Sheriff and Deputies Arrest Alleged Car Thief Escaping in Stolen Car

The suspect is from Watkinsville, the story says.

A car and a credit card belonging to a resident of Travis Drive were reported stolen Wednesday night, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald. On Thursday morning, Oconee County Sheriff's Deputies had learned that the suspected thief, Timothy Kyle Saxon of Watkinsville, was in the area still.

Sheriff Scott Berry and Chief Deputy Lee Weems were en route to the Barnett Shoals Area to help in the search, the story says, when the office heard from a caller on Godfrey Drive. The person told them they had seen a parked car and had seen the driver return to the car after changing his clothes in the woods.

According to the story, authorities arrested Saxon as he tried to escape and charged him with financial card theft, motor vehicle theft, being an uninsured driver, and being a habitual violator. He's also a parolee. And he remains in jail.
