Oconee County Man Indicted for Murder Of Waffle House Waitress

An Oconee County grand jury has handed down a seven-count indictment against Talmadge Edward "Bud" Powell, 78, of Lavista Road that includes malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, abandonment of a dead body and three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The indictment was filed with the Oconee County Clerk of Superior Court on July 19.

Powell is accused of shooting and killing 38-year-old Waffle House waitress Misty Myrick on May 29, then dumping her body along Simonton Bridge Road.

Deputies arrested Powell on June 1. He is currently being held without bond at the Oconee County Jail.

Criminal indictments are not evidence of guilt; they are only charges. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
