News Nearby: Murder-Suicide Outside of a Grayson Church

Update: Gwinnett County police confirm an 85-year-old woman and an 81-year-old man were found dead Sunday morning in an apparent murder-suicide.

Update Oct. 24, 5 p.m.: A 76-year-old Loganville man shot his 85-year-old sister in a car in the First Baptist Church of Grayson parking lot early Sunday morning before turning the gun on himself.

According to Gwinnett County police, Clarence Porter of 946 Village View Circle in Loganville shot 85-year-old Avis M. Whitley, in the head and then turned the gun on himself inside the van.

Police responded to at the  of Grayson early Sunday morning and arrived to find the bodies of the Porter and Whitley in the van in the parking lot.

Police said the two, who shared the residence in Loganville, were siblings. Investigators reported that they have learned that Whitely suffered a severe stroke several weeks ago and was in poor health, but they have not yet determined the motive for the murder-suicide. The investigation is ongoing.

A couple in their 80s were involved in a murder-suicide this morning in Grayson.

According to a press release from the Gwinnett County Police Department, officers responded to a report of a suicide at 2142 Loganville Highway in Grayson at about 7 a.m. Sunday. This is the location of the First Baptist Church of Grayson.

The officer located the two deceased persons and reported that the preliminary investigation indicates that their deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. 

"At this time we are not releasing the names of the deceased pending notification of next of kin," public information officer Cpl. Jennifer Roberts said in a press release.
