News From Oconee County Fire Rescue: Vehicle Fire Results in Total Loss

Here is a summary of calls Oconee County Fire Rescue responded to during the week of Nov. 21- Nov. 27:

Vehicle Fire

On Nov. 21 at 11:34 a.m. along the Highway 441 Bypass, a deputy stopped the driver of a 1998 Chevy Lumina for speeding and noticed a hanging muffler. According to an accident report on file at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, there was heavy smoke under the hood and dash and the deputy asked the occupants to exit the car and walk far away from it.

The vehicle then became engulfed in flames and firefighters responded to extinguish the blaze, however, the car was a total loss.  The driver told deputies the car had been experiencing mechanical problems.  Deputies did not issue a citation for speeding.
