Murder Suspect to Appear in Oconee County Superior Court Today

A bond hearing is scheduled for Talmadge Edward "Bud" Powell.

The Oconee County man accused of murder in the shooting death of Waffle House waitress Misty Michelle Myrick is scheduled to appear in court today.

Superior Court Judge Patrick Haggard will preside over the bond hearing for Talmadge Edward “Bud” Powell, 78, of Lavista Road, according Clerk of Superior Court Angela Watson.  The hearing is set for 10:30 a.m.

Powell has been in the Oconee County Jail since June 1, four days after investigators say he shot Myrick once in the back and placed her body on the side of Simonton Bridge Road.

Powell and Myrick reportedly knew one another, but investigators have declined to release details of the nature of the relationship or a possible motive for the murder of the 38-year-old mother from Oglethorpe County.
