Man Arrested for Disorderly Conduct and More Incidents in Watkinsville

At 3:47 Wednesday afternoon, December 4th, police were called to Experiment Station Road, near the Oconee County Library, after a 2013 Freightliner truck and a 2006 BMW 525-I were involved in a mishap.  No one was injured. The truck was attempting to exit the driveway at AmeriPride.  The car was exiting the library.  Both vehicles were damaged.  Charges are pending.

Thursday, December 5th at 1:53 p.m. a 2009 Nissan Rogue was hit from behind by a 2002 Kia Sedona on Whitehall Road at Third Street. Wet pavement may have contributed to the accident. The incident occurred when traffic stopped to allow for a vehicle at the front of the line making a left turn.  No one was injured. Lauren Vargas, 29, of Covington, was charged with Following Too Closely.  

At 4:30pm on Thursday, December 5th, police arrested Jordan Britt Harris, 22, of Athens, and charged him with Disorderly Conduct. Harris was extremely intoxicated at Harris Shoals Park and causing a disturbance by being loud, lewd, and falling into the creek while in a drunken condition. He was booked and then turned over to a family member for possible intervention.

On Friday, December 6th at 2:45 p.m. police were called to a Cedar Drive address concerning a child visitation issue. After some discussion, and a review of the existing Court order, the ten-year-old boy was allowed to leave with his father for a weekend visit.

Saturday, December 7th at 9:20 a.m. police were called to a domestic situation at an Elliott Circle address.  After a couple of days arguing, a 43-year-old person decided to gather some belongings and leave.  Police stood-by to keep the peace during the crisis.

At 3:12 Saturday afternoon on December 7th, a 2006 Hyundai Elantra exited Depot Street and struck the side of a 2013 Ford F-150, which had been traveling southbound on Greensboro Highway.  Neither driver was injured.  The (underage) driver of the Hyundai was charged with Failure to Yield the Right of Way.

Police and medical units were called to South Main Street, near Jackson Street, at 7:33 Sunday evening on December 8th.  A 2011 Buick Enclave was traveling northward when the driver lost control, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree.  No other vehicles were involved.  The SUV was destroyed.  The 45-year-old driver, from Bishop, was taken by National EMS for treatment of injuries.  Charges are pending.

During the week ending Sunday December 8th, the Watkinsville Police Department  responded to thirty-four (34) calls for service inside the City.
