There's a new restaurant offering Mexican fare in Oconee County.
La Cabaña de Don Juan has moved into the suite that formerly housed Tlaloc El Mexicano in the Oconee Plaza Shopping Center on Hog Mountain Road.
Manager Eduardo Lopez said the restaurant, which opened on Sept. 17, is the second of its kind in the Athens area owned by his uncle, Nicolas Lopez. The other, located on Hawthorne Avenue, opened in January of this year. A third location has been in business in Washington, Ga., for ten years. All of the restaurants are family-owned and operated, he added.
The most popular menu item, according to Lopez, is the Don Juan Special, which the menu describes as "tender
boneless chicken and turkey bacon cooked on the grill with onions and
pineapple covered with our special chipotle sauce." It is served with a choice of rice or
beans, lettuce and Pico de Gallo Don Juan.
Hours of operation at the Oconee County restaurant are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday - Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
