Heavy Rain Causes Corolla to Lose Control, Strike a Sign

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

Heavy rain was a contributing factor in a one-vehicle accident on Feb. 21 in Watkinsville, police say.

According to Chief Lee O'Dillon, the driver of a 2007 Toyota Corolla lost control and struck a sign post along Whitehall Road, damaging the car and destroying the sign.  It happened shortly after 10 p.m., he said, and the driver was not injured.

Last week officers also responded to these calls for service:

  • A 2006 Toyota 4-Runner backed into a parked 2013 Isuzu box truck at the Oconee County Library parking lot Friday around 1 p.m.. No one was injured but the SUV suffered considerable damage.
  • Sunday evening police responded to a domestic situation at a Niagra Drive address. A woman and her 15-year-old daughter had been involved in a argument concerning on-going discipline problems. The situation was resolved for the time being.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 28 calls within city limits between Feb. 18-24, 2013.
