Grocery Store Manager Accuses Man of Hiding Meat Under His Shirt

Oconee County deputies were called to Bell's Food Store on Monday.

A manager of Bell's Food Store on Hog Mountain Road called Oconee County Sheriff's deputies on Dec. 3 around 7 p.m. after she says she witnessed a shopper stuff packages of meat under his shirt.

She says she lost sight of the man when she went to get the phone to call the authorities and when she next saw him, he was paying for other items at the front register, according to an incident report.

The man told deputies he never tried to leave the store without paying. He raised his shirt to show he didn't have any meat packages underneath.

The man was served the notice and advised of the criminal trespass law, but the manager did not wish to press charges.
