Forgery Suspect Arrested After Bank Employees Spot Bad Check

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville Police Department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Waktinsville police arrested an Ellenwood man last week after he allegedly attempted to cash a fake check at a local bank.

Alert employees notified officers of the suspicious $1,454 check in the afternoon of Aug. 30 before the man had a chance to leave the bank, Police Chief Lee O'Dillon noted in his weekly news release.

Cornelius Allen Hartz, 30, was charged with forgery in the first degree.  Hartz is also wanted in Danielsville on forgery charges, O'Dillon reported.
