Fire Destroys Storage Building on Summit Oaks Drive

Lightning is believed to have caused the blaze.

A fire last week that engulfed an Oconee County storage building was possibly ignited by a lightning strike.

According to Oconee County Fire and Rescue officials, it happened about 5 p.m. on July 9, and by the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the 10' X 10' building was fully involved.

During the week of July 8-14, fire and rescue personnel also responded to the following:

  • Vehicle Smoke Scare - July 9, 5:06 pm on US Highway 78 near Ga. Highway 53 
  • 4 Alarm activations
  • 5 Auto accidents  
  • 38 calls for medical service
