Fire Consumes Chicken House Used for Storage

A controlled burn that got out of hand on 4240 Colham Ferry Road burned down a chicken house used for storage late Monday morning, authorities reported.

Wind carried flames from a controlled burn through the grass and into an old chicken house at 4240 Colham Ferry Road around 11:35 a.m. on Monday, said.

The old chicken house, which had been used to store cabinets and other items, had collapsed by the time the first two tanker trucks arrived on the scene and contained the fire within 8 to 12 minutes. Additional tankers wet down the perimeter of fire, he said.

Thirteen firefighters from 5 stations responded, two of which were canceled after the blaze was contained, Thaxton reported.
