Federal Grand Jury Indicts Northeast Georgia Woman on Meth Charge

In a drug case that originated from a traffic stop last January, a federal grand jury has handed down an indictment to a northeast Georgia woman.

Officials with the reported Monday they received a copy of the indictment for 23-year-old Kirsten Danielle Jones of Watkinsville on one count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Deputies have been working with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Georgia State Patrol on the joint investigation, and a federal grand jury reviewed the case last week, according to the news release.

show Jones was arrested on Jan.11, 2012 and initially charged with three counts of purchase, possession, manufacture, or distribution of drugs; possession of marijuana; and two counts of drugs not kept in the original containers.

Jones is currently behind bars at the Athens-Clarke County Jail, according to the Athens Banner-Herald.  The newspaper reports she and two others were arrested in mid-April in connection with drugs seized from an Athens motel room and that, at that time, Jones said she was an Athens resident.
