Federal Grand Jury Indicts Madison Man on Drug Charges Stemming From Investigations

Criminal indictments are not evidence of guilt; they are only charges. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

 

A Madison man who authorities believe is a major drug trafficker is facing formal charges.

A federal grand jury has returned a three count indictment against 38-year-old Julian Alan Groover for possession of methamphetamine and heroin with intent to distribute, according to a news release from the .

Twice in the last year Oconee County deputies reported they found methamphetamine and other drug related items linked to Groover, first at a home on Rays Church Road in September following a tip from Jones County investigators, and again during a search of Groover's impounded car in February after the Georgia State Patrol arrested him on a DUI charge and an astute deputy recognized him and notified the narcotics investigator.

Investigations into both incidents were conducted by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, Georgia State Patrol and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia and evidence was presented to a grand jury on May 10.

Groover is being held in the Morgan County Jail on a probation violation, according to the news release.
