Deputies Subdue Oconee Man With Taser, Charge Him With Public Drunkenness

Christopher Shawn Toole also faces charges of disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

s deputies say they used a Taser to subdue a man Tuesday night when he refused to comply with their orders.

It happened at a Rogers Road residence around 10 p.m., according to an incident report. The complainant told deputies his neighbor was on his property, intoxicated and "raising cain" by yelling at him and using profanity. The man said his neighbor's "actions, words, and drunken state put him in immediate fear for his safety" and when asked to leave, the neighbor refused.

Deputies spotted the suspect around the corner of the house, but he began walking "at the best pace he could manage given his bare feet" when he saw the officers, according to the deputy's report.

Deputies ordered the suspect to stop and get on the ground, but say he continued to ignore demands, and a Taser was used to subdue him.

Christopher Shawn Toole, 39, was charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and public drunkenness.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Toole remained in the Oconee County Jail, according to booking reports. Bond has been set at $2,700.

Toole appeared in a segment of The Colbert Report on  Sept. 12, 2011, when at the Athens Banner-Herald article "Man says it's too hot to fish."
