Deputies on the Lookout for Speeding, Other Traffic Violations

Several popular roads in Oconee are on the radar.

Several roadways in Oconee County are getting extra attention from .  

Chief Deputy Lee Weems said the sheriff's office is increasing speed checks around Spartan Lane at Highway 441, the result of a recent survey in which 85 percent of vehicles there were detected traveling an average of 17 mph over the 45 mph speed limit.

On Wednesday, deputies issued 14 tickets for speeding and other tickets for violations of Georgia's Move-Over law, Weems reported.

Patch spotted a deputy along the popular stretch of Highway 441 Thursday morning around 10 a.m.

New High Shoals Road in the area of is another spot where deputies are concentrating on traffic today, said Weems.

He said next week deputies will continue with another "big push" on problematic areas of Highway 441, to be announced.
