Dental Assistant Accused of Fraudulently Obtaining Prescription Drugs

An Oconee County Sheriff's deputy says an Athens woman admitted to calling in a prescription for herself without her employer dentist's knowledge.

The deputy was dispatched to on July 19 after a pharmacist became suspicious of a prescription that had been called into the pharmacy because she had never seen that dentist prescribe Lortab pills, the deputy noted in the report.

The pharmacist said she contacted Dr. Neal Pylant of Athens Periodontics who confirmed he had not prescribed the pills to the person named on the prescription, according to the incident report.  The pharmacist also said she described the woman attempting to fill the prescription and the dentist said the description matched one of his employees, the report stated.

The deputy says the "visibly shaken" suspect told him: "I'm going to lose my job. I called in a prescription for myself without the doctor's knowledge."  When asked if it was the first time she had done it, the deputy says she stated, "No, I did it a few months ago."

The deputy says he asked the pharmacist to search for other prescriptions filled in the same name and learned of another prescription had been filled for Lortab pills in May, which had been called in by a different doctor who also had no knowledge of the prescription.

Kimberly Amanda Fuller, 26, was charged with two counts of obtaining dangerous drugs by fraud and one count of possession of schedule III narcotics.  Fuller's personal Facebook page lists her work as a certified dental assistant for Dr. Pylant.
