Crime Report: Another Air Conditioner Damaged by Thief

The following information was gathered from Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports and highlights incidents reported Oct. 31- Nov. 6. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Copper Theft: Copper wire was stolen from a five-ton air conditioning unit located behind an office building at a 2200 block address of Hog Mountain Road sometime between 5 p.m. on Oct. 31 and 4 p.m. on Nov. 11.  A fan portion and external shell were left at the scene.  Copper lines running to a secondary unit device were cut. The damage and theft is estimated at $10,000.

Theft of Fuel: A man authorities say was caught on camera on Nov. 3 cutting the lock off of a diesel fuel tank faces multiple charges. See .

Burglary: Someone used a key to enter a 1000 block residence of Mason Mill Road between Oct. 30 and Nov. 4 and remove gold jewelry from a jewelry box. An unknown amount of necklaces, rings, and bracelets were taken.

Shoplifting: reported a man took a SpongeBob Square Pants video game on Nov. 1.  The man left the store before deputies arrived.

Motorcycle Theft: A 2006 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle was stolen from a 1100 block residence of Daniels Bridge Road sometime between 12-4 p.m. on Nov. 1.  The motorcycle had been parked in an unlocked garage where an entry door had been propped open.

Murder Investigation Revisited:  On Nov. 3, an incident report noted the .

Harassment: On Nov. 6, a man reported his ex-wife was harassing him via phone calls and text messages related to a custody exchange.  Deputies advised him of the warrant process. 

Traffic Stop: A deputy reported seeing a White Chevy Malibu swerve and almost strike another vehicle on Loop 10 around 5:15 p.m. on Nov. 5.  When stopped, the driver told the deputy he was taking his friend to the hospital because the friend was experiencing chest pains.  Douglas Dalton, 36, of Right Circle in Athens, was charged with suspended license and failure to maintain lane. The passenger was taken by ambulance to Athens Regional Medical Center for an evaluation.

Irate Man: Deputies responded to a ballpark on S. Burson Avenue on Nov. 4 around 8 p.m. where it was reported that a man was cursing and yelling in front of children.  The man left the scene before deputies arrived.

Burglary: On Nov. 4, it was reported that an HP Pavilion laptop and case valued at $1280 were taken from a 1000 block rental property office of Timber Mill Run sometime between Oct. 27 and Oct. 28.  There were no signs of forced entry.

Shoplifting: A white 16 GB Apple iPhone 4S display model was taken from the on Experiment Station Road on Nov. 2 sometime between 5-7 p.m. The phone is valued at $900.

Theft by Conversion: When a rental saw was not returned on time, an employee of contacted deputies to report a theft.  The saw, valued at $667, was rented on Oct. 25 and was supposed to be returned on Oct. 26.  The employee told deputies that when he contacted the individual who rented the saw, he learned the tool was "missing." 

Slanderous Remarks:  A woman reported someone had been making "slanderous" remarks about her on Facebook.  An information report was filed because the woman told deputies she wanted to avoid any possible future allegations.

Criminal Trespass: An 18-wheeler reportedly damaged a N. Burson Avenue yard when the driver turned around on the property.  The property owner told deputies on Nov. 4 that the truck left deep ruts in the yard and damaged a pecan tree.  The man somthing similar happened in April and caused $850 worth of damage.

Burglary: A home in the 1200 block of Twin Lakes Road was burglarized on Nov. 1 between 7 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.  No other details were listed in the incident report.

Simple Assault:  Deputies arrested 76-year-old Elton Ray Godwin of Tignall, Ga. on two charges of simple battery after they were called to around 2 p.m. on Oct. 31.  A physical dispute reportedly had taken place in the parking lot.

Entering Auto: A man reported on Nov. 1 that someone cut the soft-top cover of his Jeep Wrangler parked at a 1100 block address of Hunter Trail between 1 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 30.  An iPod, prescription bottle with 30 pills and a plastic lunch box with a first aid kit inside were taken.
