Crime Report: 6 Vehicles Entered Over Span of Three Days

The following information was gathered from Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports and highlights incidents reported Nov. 28- Dec. 4.

Items were taken from six unlocked vehicles between Nov. 28 and Nov. 30, according to incident reports. In recent months, the has urged residents to lock their vehicles and to

  • A camera was reportedly taken from an unlocked vehicle parked at sometime between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 28.
  • An unlocked Ford Ranger parked at a 1000 block address of Victoria Crossing was entered sometime between 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 28 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 29.  A pink drawstring book bag with black and white cow print was taken that contained files, a magnetic key and a door key belonging to the University of Georgia, a black iPhone 4G with a cracked back and a thin red and black case, a black iPhone 3S, and an orangish-brown purse with a driver's license, staff ID, multiple credit cards and $120 were taken. Items were valued at over $1,300.
  • The owner of a Volkswagen Jetta, which had been parked at a 1200 block residence of Station Drive, reported his wallet containing credit cards had been taken from the unlocked car. It happened sometime between Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 Subsequently, four fraudulent transactions had been made at area businesses.
  • Over the same time period, a second resident of Station Drive reported a GPS unit missing from a Honda Odyssey that had been left unlocked.  Two pairs of wool socks that were purchased as a gift were also taken.
  • Two vehicles parked at a Tanglebrook Drive residence were entered on Nov. 29 sometime between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. A purse, cash, ID, checks, Dell laptop computer, iPhone, and other items were taken.

Theft: It's Christmastime, but instead of the holiday season deterring some thieves, it's spurring them on. On Nov. 28, A Wild Azalea Lane resident reported the theft of two custom-made flower pots with a UGA theme and concrete bases that stand at 5-feet tall and weigh about 175 pounds. Also taken was a UGA homemade wreath.  Total value of the items is $1000.

Burglary: A Sikes Road couple began noticing one or two items missing and then realized several things had been taken from a drawer in the master bedroom. A small pillowcase that had been on the kitchen table was also taken and a kitchen drawer had been rummaged through.  The burglary is believed to have occurred sometime on Nov. 28 between 6:50 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Speeding Car Strikes Dog: A woman reported her adult female golden retriever was killed on Moores Ford Road when the dog darted in front of a speeding car.  The woman said the driver of the older model burgundy Honda did not stop. Deputies noted the need for speed detection in the area.

Burglary: A resident in the 1000 block of Oaklake Trail reported someone known to him removed property from the home on Nov. 25.

Identity Theft: After checking her credit, a Bishop woman found a delinquent Georgia Power bill from 2008 in the amount of $739 in her name.  Someone had used her first and last name and social security to open an account in southwest Atlanta, but had used an incorrect middle name.

Theft: A juvenile complaint was filed against a student on Nov. 30 for reportedly having taken a cell phone.  The phone was recovered.

Failure to Appear: Oconee County deputies met with Athens-Clarke County police in parking lot around 2 p.m. on Nov. 30 where officers had a suspect in custody for failure to appear in court in earlier in the month on a shoplifting charge. The suspect was booked into the Oconee County Jail.

Employee Suspected of Shoplifting: Deputies were dispatched to Kohl's on Nov. 30 around 7:30 p.m. Managers told deputies a cashier had been marking items down from their regular prices and keeping the items for herself. She was arrested on a shoplifting charge.

Shoplifting: Deputies arrested a man suspected of shoplifting at on Dec. 1.  Store security witnessed the offender concealing items and exiting the store without paying.

Burglary: A resident of the 1200 block of Dowdy Road reported a burglary that had occurred sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 1.  No other details were noted in the incident report.

Harassment: An Oconee County woman reported a man who was angry at her boyfriend over the sale of a car had been calling her and showed up at her place of employment on Dec. 1 and yelled profanity and threatened to go retrieve the vehicle.

Shoplifting: Deputies transported a shoplifting suspect from Wal-Mart to the Oconee County Jail on Dec. 1 around 7:15 p.m.

Identity Theft: A Bogart women reported her bank froze her checking account after two fraudulent charges appeared.  The transactions had been made in Washington and Oregon.

Threatening Text Messages: On Dec. 1, a Watkinsville man reported his son had been receiving text messages from another boy threatening to beat his son up.

Theft: Overnight Dec. 1-Dec. 2, a 2006 Chevy Impala parked at a 1000 block Timbermill Run residence was placed on milk crates and concrete block and tires and rims valued at $5,600 were removed.

Aggravated Stalking: An Oconee County woman told deputies on Dec. 2 that she had a temporary protective order against her father and he continued to contact her.

Burglary: Several items of value were taken from a home in the 4700 block of Hog Mountain Road on Dec. 2.  No other details were noted in the incident report.

Burglary: In a twenty-minute window on Dec. 4, someone entered a 1200 block residence of Twin Lakes Road and took some items. The burglary reportedly occurred between 6:28-6:48 p.m.

Burglary: Someone entered a home on Tanglewood Drive through an unlocked garage between 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 and 5:30 a.m on Dec. 4. A purse was taken from the kitchen and a wallet was taken from a car parked inside the garage.  Items missing are valued at $250.

Harassment: On Dec. 3, a woman reported her ex-boyfriend had been sending her text messages over a 24-hour period.  She told deputies he had also been involved in a battery incident in Walton County on Saturday.  The woman was advised about how to obtain a temporary protective order.

Criminal Damage to Property: A woman reported on Dec. 3 that her vehicle had been damaged and a hubcap was missing after being parked at Kohl's on Nov. 28. Video surveillance shows a green Jeep pull up next to the woman's vehicle and a woman exited the store, passed between the two vehicles and climbed into the Jeep.  When the Jeep pulled away, the video shows a hubcap missing from the woman's vehicle.

Public Drunkenness: On Dec. 3, an intoxicated woman was asked to leave a Colham Ferry residence until she sobered up, but she refused.  Deputies were called to the scene and reported the woman was experiencing apparent hallucinations.  At first the woman agreed to be taken to the hospital for an evaluation, but then she changed her mind.  Deputies gave her the option to either seek treatment or be arrested for public drunkenness.  While being escorted from the porch, the woman misstepped and the deputy tried to catch her, but tripped over her legs.  Both the deputy and woman fell about 1.5 feet to the ground.  Neither was injured.  The woman was transported to the Oconee County Jail.
