Crime Report: Burglar Takes Over $13,000 Worth of Jewelry, Guitars

Jewelry and guitars taken: Sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 3:19 p.m. on July 31, a house in the 1400 block of Lane Creek Road was burglarized. Two guitars, an amplifier, and 10 pieces of jewelry including necklaces and rings were stolen.  The total value of the items is $13,460.

Mailbox destroyed: A resident of the 1200 block of Oconee Forest Drive reported someone damaged the mailbox by striking it repeatedly with an object.  It happened sometime between 11:15 p.m. on July 30 and 9:01 a.m. on Aug. 1.

The vandalism reportedly occurred earlier this week at the First Baptist Church of Bogart in Oconee County, Ga.

Portable hard drives stolen: The passenger's side window of a vehicle parked at a 1000 Canter Bend residence was broken sometime between 5 p.m. on Aug. 1 and 8:15 a.m. on Aug. 2.  A laptop bag that did not contain a laptop but did contain two portable hard drives and a Blackberry cell phone was taken. 

Car window smashed: Around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 3, a deputy responded to a residence in the 2100 block of Keeneland Drive.  The passenger's side window of a 2007 Honda Civic was broken and a brown laptop-sized Nine West bag was taken along with a ceramic coffee cup and cosmetics. 

Credit cards taken: A resident of the 1000 block of Waterford Court reported on Aug. 1 someone had entered her unlocked vehicle and removed three credit cards from a fabric wallet on a key ring that had been in the driver's side door storage area.  The victim learned of the incident after she was contacted by one of the creditors about suspicious activity on her account.  The cards had been used at several locations in Athens.  The theft occurred sometime between 5 p.m. on July 31 and 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 1.

Computer missing: An employee of reported a computer bag containing a cell phone, charger and notebook computer was stolen from his office sometime between 5 p.m. July 26 and around noon on Aug. 1.

Aggravated stalking: A man was charged with aggravated stalking after he reportedly showed up at wife's employer's office on Aug. 1 and asked questions about her.  His wife already had filed a temporary protective order against him for having threatened her life. While a deputy was taking the new report, he says the man came to the wife's home and knocked on the door.  The man told the deputy he was there to check on his wife and give her a check.  The Watkinsville man was arrested.

Shoplifting report: Wal-mart loss prevention employees reported two individuals exited through a side door of the store around 10:50 a.m. on July 31, taking with them a computer printer, two desktop computers, a computer monitor, air tool kit, pillow and clothing items that weren't paid for.  No contact was made with the individuals and they left in a vehicle. No other details were listed in the report. The total worth of the items is estimated at $1,100.

Entrance damaged: On July 31, a deputy was dispatched to storage warehouses in the 1400 block of Atlanta Highway.  It appeared a vehicle had struck a rock wall entrance to the property, causing damage, and had left the scene.

Shoplifting arrest: Two Athens women were charged with shoplifting on July 30 after loss prevention employees at said they attempted to steal items from the store.

Van entered: A man reported a van parked in the 1000 block of Windy Creek Drive was entered sometime between 11:30 a.m. on July 29 and 5:00 a.m. on July 30.  A wallet and credit cards were taken.

Vehicle Stolen, Later Recovered: A resident of the 1200 block of Palomino Pass reported a 2012 Honda Accord was stolen from his driveway sometime between midnight and 7:20 a.m. on July 30.  It had been left unlocked and there was a spare key inside. The Athens Banner-Herald reports the car was later found in DeKalb County.

Car window shattered: A resident of the 1200 block of Palomino Pass reported someone broke the passenger's side back window out of a company car parked at his home between 8:30 p.m. on July 29 and 7:20 a.m. on July 30.  Nothing was missing.

Car entered: Around 8 a.m. on July 30, a deputy responded to a residence in the 1100 block of Palomino Pass where a woman reported the company car she'd driven home had been entered.  The driver's side window was broken. Nothing appeared to be missing. 

Truck entered: A deputy was conducting a follow up investigation on an earlier report of entering auto when it was discovered that a vehicle in the 1300 of Crooked Creek Road had been entered.  The truck's driver's side window was smashed and a wallet, bag of change and book bag were taken.  The wallet was discovered in the roadway, but credit cards were missing.

Package shipped to vacant home: On July 30, a resident of Timarron Trail reported she had been waiting for a package that never came.  She said it was sent on July 24 and she had received an email that it had been shipped. A few days later she noticed a package sitting on the porch of a vacant home in the neighborhood.  The woman's name was on the box with the incorrect address, and someone had opened the box and removed a hand knitted picture in a frame worth about $700.

Duplex trashed: A man reported he moved out of a duplex in the 1100 block of Pebblestone Drive and cleaned the building on July 29.  He turned off the lights and locked the door before leaving. On July 30, the man said he returned to find the lights were on and someone had strewn trash around the home, leaving it in a disheveled state. The shower was painted and someone had defecated in a closet.  The perpetrator had also eaten a watermelon that had been left in the refrigerator.  Extra patrols were set up in the area.
