Crime Report: SUV Stolen After Running Out of Gas

The following information was gathered from Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports and highlights incidents reported Jan. 18 - 22.

SUV Stolen: A man told deputies his SUV was stolen from the side of the road after he ran out of gas.

The victim had been driving along Epps Bridge Parkway about 10 p.m. on Jan. 21 when he turned onto the outer SR 10 Loop.  The man's 2000 Chevy Tahoe ran out of gas and he called a family member to pick him up so he could purchase gas and return to put it in the vehicle. The trip took about an hour, and when the victim returned, the SUV was missing.  It had been locked before he left and he had taken the keys with him when he left to purchase gas.

Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.  It has been entered as a stolen into the Georgia Crime Information Center.  The SUV is the color of champagne on the outside with a gray interior.

Bike Stolen: A resident of Elder Street reported his son's bike had been taken from the yard. The bike is bright green with the brand name "Next" written on the neck of the handle bars and "Kaos" written on the frame across the bike under the seat.  The bike is valued at $100.

Two Oconee County men face charges of possession of controlled substances and possession of drug-related objects.

Terroristic Threats and Acts: A clerk at told deputies on Jan. 21 that she had been threatened by a customer who tried to purchase alcohol with an expired ID.  When the clerk refused the sale, she says the man made statements that upset her and she wanted to file a report of the incident.

Theft of Headset: The principal of met with deputies on Jan. 20.  She said one student had taken a Beats headset, valued at $180, from another student.  She had returned the headset to its rightful owner, but wished to press charges against the offender.  A juvenile complaint was filed for misdemeanor theft by taking and the student was released to family members.

Theft by Shoplifting: On Jan. 21, a 20-year-old man was arrested at after loss prevention associates told deputies he tried to leave the Garden Center wearing a jacket without first paying for it.

Theft by Taking: A radiator was removed from a 1941 Ford Deluxe automobile that had been parked on a property in the 5500 block of Hog Mountain Road.  The theft reportedly occurred between 12 p.m. on Jan. 19 and 2 p.m. on Jan. 20.

: Timothy Shane Fulcher turned himself in Thursday, authorities report.

: Sharon LaCount faces theft charges for allegedly funneling more than $7,000 out of an account for the NOHS student organization Health Occupations Students of America, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.

Scam on Craigslist: An Oconee County woman reported she had been communicaing via email with someone on Craigslist about a nanny position in the Athens area.  The woman was mailed a check for "a considerable amount" and asked to cash it, keep $400, and send the rest back to the sender. 

Burglary: A resident of Sikes Road reported a burglary had occurred sometime between 9 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 19.  The home had been locked but the victim found a back door was open. A shotgun, jewelry and a leaf blower were taken. 

Rape: On Jan. 19, a Watkinsville woman told deputies she had been raped by someone known to her sometime between March and May of 2011. No other details were in the report. Investigators are working on the case.

James Erik Hester was booked into the Oconee County Jail on Wednesday on warrants for charges from an incident Aug. 21 on Watson Springs Road.
