Burglary on Mason Mill Road Under Investigation

A rear door was shattered and a couple of rooms were rummaged through Saturday night, according to reports.

Oconee County Sheriff's investigators are examining a thermostat and alarm speaker for evidence that might point them to the person responsible for breaking into a Mason Mill Road home Saturday night.

According to an incident report, deputies were dispatched to the home in the 1000 block after an alarm went off around 8:15 p.m. They met with the homeowner in the driveway and found the back door to the rear deck area had been shattered.

A search of the home revealed someone had rummaged through a chest of drawers in the back bedroom and had also disturbed items in a rear bathroom. At the time of the report it was unknown if anything was missing, but multiple items of value were noticeably left untouched, a deputy noted.

A thermostat and an interior alarm speaker had been knocked off of the wall, and both were entered into evidence to be examined for fingerprints. Deputies believe the burglar left through the same shattered door.

The investigation is ongoing.
