Update: Driver of Stolen Car Gives Chase in Clarke, Oconee

The light blue Mazda 5 was recovered Monday evening at a Jennings Mill location. Suspects remain on the lam.

Update: 10/25 11:15 a.m.: The Mazda 5 was reported stolen from Enterprise Rental in Commerce on Oct. 18, Commerce Police Lt. Ken Harmon said.  During a burglary the keys were taken and used to steal the car, he said.

Update 10/24/ 10 p.m.:

The stolen car was recovered in the Jennings Mill area, after a citizen spotted it and called 911, Oconee County authorities reported around 8:30 p.m. The suspects have not yet been located.

The car was stolen from Commerce, and the Commerce police department will be working on the theft case, according to a Facebook post.

Authorities in Clarke and Oconee counties are searching for a stolen light blue Mazda 5 and its two white male occupants.

Athens-Clarke County police chased the Mazda into Oconee, according to a Nixle alert sent by shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

The ACC police notified Oconee authorities of the chase as they were passing the construction area on Loop 10, according to Chief Deputy Lee Weems. The chase exited at Epps Bridge, and the ACC police broke off pursuit shortly thereafter when the chase approached the Oconee Connector and it was determined to be too dangerous to continue, the alert noted.

The Georgia State Patrol and Oconee County Sheriff's deputies were checking the area.

The Mazda has a Georgia tag brw6511.
