Victim of Fatal Crash in Oconee County Identified

A 31-year-old Fortson, Ga. man died when the SUV he was driving went off of the road and overturned on the SR 10 Loop exit 20 ramp to the Oconee Connector, authorities report.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office Friday morning released the identity of the on the SR 10 Loop exit 20 ramp to the Oconee Connector.

The body of Joshua T. Bruner, 31, of Fortson, Ga. was discovered at the site where the GMC Suburban he'd been driving crashed into the woods off of the exit, according to authorities.

A public information officer for the Georgia State Patrol said the Suburban left the roadway and hit an embankment with its front end, struck several trees and overturned one or more times before coming to rest in the tree line on its roof facing east.  Bruner was unrestrained and partially ejected during the rollover, according to the GSP.

Oconee County firemen used chainsaws to cut down trees in order to access the vehicle, during which time the exit ramp was closed.

It is unknown when the accident occurred, according to the GSP. A passerby spotted the wreckage Thursday and notified authorities around noon.

Don't Drink and Drive November 2, 2012 at 04:05 pm
I wonder if there will be a toxicology report to see if he was under the influence. Seems like it would of happened late Wednesday night after Halloween celebrations. Truly a sad story that happens all too often...

I knew Josh and he was not drinking. This did not happen on Wednesday night as he was last seen at 2 pm on Thursday, completely sober. It is a sad story whether or not he would have been intoxicated. We are not sure exactly what happened yet, we just know that he was not under the influence and he somehow lost control of the vehicle. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. We are all still shocked about the news as it was obviously very unexpected. His family was not informed until 9 pm last night. My prayers are with them as they face this horrible tragedy.

Judy, I'm sorry about the loss of your friend. My thoughts are with you and Josh's other friends and family members. Very tragic.

Heartbreaking. Please wear your seatbelt, everyone! I lost a precious friend this same way in 1984 and I still miss him so much! My thoughts and prayers go out to Josh's family and friends.

Josh was not only a great co-worker and a great guy, he was also a friend. I grieve for Bruha (his brother) and the rest of the Bruner family. We may never know what happened, if he fell asleep at the wheel, lost control, or any other reason. It happened very late at night after a very busy day at work. I am sure fatigue was a factor. Josh, fly with the angels buddy, for we will all join you at some point.

Imagine that! A mockery of a representative calling an issue a mockery! How much of his outrageousRead More salary and benefit package is he willing to give up? And what he calls fact is seriously distorted information. Good leaders don't run and hide from an issue and then blame others for their shortcomings... I realize good leaders are hard to find.... but, why do we continue to tolerate mediocrity? A vacant seat would be just as effective as this congressman... actually, as I think about it, probably more effective.
