Andra Dickens Named Oconee Medical First Responder of the Year

Dickens responded to more than 900 calls last year and is considered the most active medical first responder in the county.

In 2011, he was considered the most active medical first responder in Oconee Fire Rescue, responding to over 900 calls, which was about 40 percent of the total number of EMS responses in the entire county.  And for his efforts, Andra Dickens was recently named the Medical First Responder of the Year for 2012.

Dickens was awarded a plaque during the Northeast Georgia EMS Awards Banquet, held at the on April 25. The annual banquet honors all EMS personnel in the 10-county service area for Northeast Georgia Health District Region 10.

During his more than two decades with Oconee Fire Rescure, Dickens has served in the positions of firefighter, medical first responder, station chief, and EMA rescue chief,  according to a news release.

“Andra is a great asset to Oconee County Fire Rescue and truly shows what volunteerism is all about,” Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton said in a released statement. “His passion and caring for the community is unmatched, and his dedication shows not only thru EMS responses, but his willingness to assist with the Medical First Responder recruit class which is taught annually by the department.”
