Watkinsville Police Respond to 31 Calls Last Week

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville police department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Update, Aug. 13, 2012: The three theft by taking charges against John S. Ravan were dismissed, according to a Dec. 12, 2011, document signed by assistant district attorney Kris Bolden of the Western Judicial Circuit. In a telephone conversation Aug. 13, 2012, Ravan told Oconee Patch he had had a medical condition that caused him to become disoriented on the day of the reported incident, which, in part, led to the dismissal of the charges.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending June 26.

  • John Stephen Ravan, 46, of Warner Robins, was booked into the Oconee County Jail on June 22, charged with three counts of felony theft by taking.  The charges stem from an incident in May in which a tractor-trailer and $52,000 worth of frozen chickens were stolen from LAD Truck Lines. All items were recovered within a few days and through the collaboration of several law enforcement agencies, Ravan was arrested in Warner Robins.  Until last Wednesday Ravan had been held at the Houston County Jail on a charge of probation violation of an original charge of theft by conversion. Those charges were unrelated to the Watkinsville case. Watkinsville Police transferred Ravan to the Oconee County Jail.
  • Police arrested Michael Allen Keesling, 43, of Athens, and charged him with financial transaction card fraud on June 21.
  • Officers investigated a two-car accident at Business Boulevard around 1:15 p.m. on June 24.  No one was injured.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between Monday, June 20 and Sunday, June 26.
