Accused Speeder Was Wanted for Fraud

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Watkinsville police say last week they pulled over a Bogart woman for a speeding violation and learned she was wanted in a neighboring county on a charge of fraud.

According to Police Chief Lee O'Dillon's weekly news release, officers stopped a 2002 BMW at 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 4 for speeding on New High Shoals Road. A routine computer check revealed that the driver,  48-year-old Janis B. Jones,  was wanted in Athens-Clarke County on an outstanding fraud warrant, he said. Jones was arrested and turned over to the Clarke County Sheriff’s Department.

On other, unrelated police news, officers  were called to a domestic argument at a Barnett Shoals Road address just before 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 7. One family member had accused another family member of drug abuse, the news release stated. The person denied any knowledge of drug use and none was located.
