Man Flees From Deputy, Later Turns Himself In

An 's deputy says a Monroe man attempted to elude a traffic stop and then fled on foot after he eventually pulled into a driveway.

On March 31 about 4:45 p.m., the deputy was observing traffic on Hillsboro Road.Β  He attempted to initiate a traffic stop for a red pickup truck after noticing it was traveling at a high rate of speed and the driver was not wearing a seat belt, according to an incident report. The deputy activated his blue lights and caught up to the truck around Peacock Drive on Hillsboro Road and then followed it as it turned onto Land Creek Road.

While the deputy was behind the truck on Lane Creek Road, the vehicle was traveling about 60mph, according to the deputy's report. The truck turned onto Rogers Road and nearly wrecked before eventually pulling into a driveway in the 1100 block. According to the deputy, "the driver of the vehicle exited and started running straight back towards the back of the residence ignoring all of my verbal commands to stop running and to lay down on the ground."

The passenger of the vehicle complied with the deputy's orders and identified the driver. The deputy ran the truck's tag and confirmed the suspect's identity.

Backup arrived and deputies combed the woods and searched buildings on the property but were unable to locate the suspect.Β  Warrants were taken out for the arrest of Joshua Quintin Hicks, 35, of Monroe, and he later turned himself in, Chief Deputy Lee Weems said.

Hicks was charged with fleeing/attempting to elude, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, seat belt violation, and open container of alcohol.
