Chops and Hops Removes the "Black and Bleu" From Daily Special Menu

The restaurant changed course after drawing national scorn for making light of Rihanna's domestic violence situation on Facebook.

in Watkinsville is known to post a daily special on its Facebook page for fans. Among those specials is an occasional Celebrity Sandwich with a tongue-in-cheek description that usually gets a few likes and comments to go along with the yummy photo.

But Friday’s Caribbean Black and Bleu burger’s description created more comments than ever – for many, putting this in the “don’t like” category. The description read:

Well we were going to do @TimTebow today but decided to trade for a sure thing this week. Instead @chrisbrown, @rihanna and us teamed up for a award winning celebrity sandwich. Put your hands on this caribbean black and bleu sandwich. Caribbean spiced marinated sliced ribeye blackened then look out for the bleu cheese, sliced tomato, silver Lamborghini onions, and shredded romaine. Chris Brown won't beat you up for eating this unless your name starts with a R and ends with A.

Fox News, The Huffington Post, and the New York Daily News are among the media outlets that have picked up on the irreverent description that is causing a stir among locals – and those who believe that domestic violence is not a joking matter.

According to their Facebook page, Chops and Hops has pulled the sandwich from the menu, and on Saturday, reported that “It is not on the menu nor will it ever be.”

A representative of Chops and Hops has since posted:

The owners of C&H would like to make sure everyone knows that we and our staff DO NOT SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Many of us have been affected by domestic violence in some manner and realize that this is no joke.
We have been involved in fundraising for Project Safe Team 6 and we fully intend on donating proceeds (times 6 - in honor of Team 6) from the sales of the burger. C&H continues to strive for a community driven, family oriented, great food and great service environment. We will continue to be involved in our community fundraising and charities near and dear to our hearts.

Though there are still some angry comments coming in, most agree this is the right thing to do.

Sounds delicious...O sorry ... What was the question?

It was just an unfortunate choice of wording. Perhaps they will make an effort to seek a second opinion before they put something out there that others might find offensive. Lesson learned, right guys?
