Farmers Market Launches 11th Season On Saturday
By Lee Becker
Market Board Customer Representative
About 30 vendors offering early greens, meats and eggs, honey and mushrooms, and lots more will be in front of the courthouse in Watkinsville at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning for the launch of the 11th season of the Oconee Farmers Market.
The Red Oak Southern String Band, a popular local group playing Americana, blue grass and folk, will return for the start of the 2014 season, giving a musical background to the chatter of the market.
Vendors will be selling herbs and landscape plants, boiled peanuts, pasta and gelato, goat cheese, jams and jellies.
Cakes and breads will be among the baked goods on offer.
Locally Made Products Too
Customers will have a chance to see locally made bracelets, soaps and lotions, painted gourds and birdhouses.
The market will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday until the end of November.
The Tuesday market will launch on May 13 at Watkinsville First Christian Church at the corner of Simonton Bridge Road and Main Street, also in downtown Watkinsville.
That market will be open from 4 to 7 p.m.
