Warrior Tennis Splits with Chamblee

Horsley Keeps Unbeaten Singles Streak Perfect at 12

Dan Gruetter's Oconee Warrior tennis team had about 15 hours to regroup from Friday's Westminster match before taking on the AAAA Chamblee at OCHS Saturday morning. Gruetter once again realigned his lineups for girls and boys enroute to a split with the visiting Bulldogs. The boys cruised 5-0, but the girls fell 3-2, when Jordan England lost her first match of the season, and both doubles matches went to the Lady Bulldogs.

Katy Kane, playing her normal steady game at #2 singles, won again Saturday to boost her season record to 8-3 with a solid 6-1, 6-0 win. Meanwhile, freshmanΒ Erin Horsley won 6-3, 7-5 at #3 singles for the Lady Warriors' only other point.Β The Lady Warriors played without the services of the injured Ivy Do, a doubles mainstay.Β The Lady Warriors season record now stands at 5-6.

The OCHS boys won convincingly 5-0 against a talented Chamblee team that challenged Gruetter's men in the early going. With the top of the Warrior lineup flip-flopped at 1 and 2 singles, Drew Horsley manned the 1 spot, winning his 12th straight match 6-2, 6-3. The win kept Horsley's undefeated seson intact through 12 matches. Will McDonald held down the 2 spot, and also responded with a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Mitchell Graves actually clinched the match for the Warriors, when he took care of business on court three, 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, the #1 doubles team of Hunter Pritchard and Dan Madden won going away 6-4, 6-0. At #2 doubles, the emerging duo of Zach Miner and Chandler Shields dominated once again with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of their Bulldog opponents. The win boosts the Warriors to 7-5 for the season.
