Warrior Tennis Dominates for Region 8-AAA Crown
Gruetter picks up 12th Region Title in 13 years
Coach Dan Gruetter's OCHS Warrior boys tennis team picked up yet another Region 8-AAA title Thursday, as they cruised past the Morgan County Bulldogs 3-0 on the Warriors' home courts. The region championship was preceded by wins over Hart County earlier in the day, and East Jackson on Wednesday.
The Warriors relied on their strength at 1 and 2 singles and 2 doubles to hand Gruetter one last region crown, in his final season as the Warriors' Head Coach.
Against Morgan County in the finals, Zach Miner and Chandler Shields were first off the court, with a brisk 6-1, 6-1 win at #2 doubles. Will McDonald, playing #1 Singles won 6-1, 6-0 over Caleb Plumley, while Drew Horsley matched that score exactly also winning 6-1, 6-0 over Sam Cooper to clinch it for the Warriors. The win gave Gruetter-coached Warrior boys teams 12 out of the last 13 region titles, dating back to 2001.
